International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women
Women's activists have marked November 25 as a day to fight violence against women since 1981. On December 17, 1999, the United Nations General Assembly designated 25 November as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The UN invited governments, international organizations and NGOs to organize activities designated to raise public awareness of the problem on this day as an international observance. Women around the world are subject to rape, domestic violence and other forms of violence, and the scale and true nature of the issue is often hidden. This date came from the brutal assassination in 1960 of the three Mirabal sisters, political activists in the Dominican Republic, on orders of Dominican dictator Rafael Trujillo (1930–1961).

The trial has begun in Vienna of a Spanish-Mexican woman accused of murdering both her former husband and her lover, and burying them in concrete in the cellar of her ice cream shop.
Estibaliz Carranza is accused of shooting her former husband in the head in 2008, and killing her lover in his sleep in 2010. It is alleged that she then dismembered the bodies before burying them in the shop's basement.

So here you are the real McCoy:
Ian Foster was diagnosed with diabetes when he was just 32. He is suffering from a condition which is increasing at an alarming rate across Northern Ireland.
Every day about ten new cases are diagnosed here.
While not life threatening, if left undetected this common illness can have huge consequences.
The figures are so worrying that they have triggered urgent calls for the Health Service to sit up and take notice. Find out more: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/northern_ireland/8041152.stm

FORBIDDEN PLANET
Year Released: 1956
Country: US
Director: Fred Wilcox
Forbidden Planet was a 1950's science fiction box office success, containing a mixture of technological paranoia (computers and technology ultimately destroyed the galaxy's most advanced race) and optimism (space flight is ubiquitous, mankind is flourishing, and Robby the Robot is every housewife's dream come true).
The film begins with a very squeaky-clean and positive view of science and technology.
The first piece of "alien" technology we are introduced to is Robby the Robot. Robby is another perfectly crafted work -- he is self-sufficient and perfectly loyal to his human masters. When we are first introduced to the rest of the technology of the Krell, it too is pristine. It shows no signs of wear and tear, despite its incredible age. It was perfectly crafted millions of years ago, and is entirely self-sustaining.
