give me a ˈbreak! (spoken) used when somebody wants somebody else to stop doing or saying something that is annoying, or to stop saying something that is not true:

        I was only late once! Give me a break!

give somebody a break spoken to stop being strict with someone so that a situation becomes easier for them; stop criticizing or being angry with someone:

   Don't criticize him so much. He's doing the best he can. Why don't you give him a break?

to observe formal to obey a law, rule, or custom; to celebrate or solemnize something, such as a ceremony or festival in a customary or accepted way; to conform one's action or practice to something, such as a law, rite, or condition; to comply with;
We will be closed Monday, July 4th, to observe Independence Day with our family and friends.
People must observe the law. Nobody should be an exception.
The old people in the village still observe the local traditions.
